What We Do
Helping Hands Kenya, based in Wausau, Wisconsin, is a humanitarian organization with dedicated volunteers who share their resources with most needy individuals/families in six Kenyan Counties. Initiated in 1996 with a desire to share our Blessings with those who are less fortunate. Our organization provides a means whereby everyday people—retirees, teachers, students, physicians, construction workers, farmers, etc. — make a difference in the lives of those in greatest need!
Whether it is a short-term humanitarian experience in Kenya or volunteering to pack supplies, or make reusable sanitary pads Helping Hands ensures that anyone who cares can contribute meaningfully.

Our Programs and Activities
Our volunteers channel their energy into several key initiatives designed to restore Hope, promote dignity and provide a path whereby the most needy can improve their daily lives.
Building New Houses: We partner with vulnerable families living in deteriorating mud structures to build a new house made of basic timber with corrugated metal sides/roof and a concrete floor. Together, we also construct a combo pit latrine/bathing room as well as an outdoor kitchen. True to our guiding principles, families work alongside our volunteers to build their own homes, ensuring a shared sense of accomplishment and pride.
Perfect Attendance for Girls One of the factors to performing well in school is attending classes every day. That does not occur in Kenya with girls as they do not attend when they have their menstrual cycle. That is why our volunteers make high-quality, reusable sanitary pads. We distribute these pads, with new underwear directly to school-aged girls ensuring that a menstrual cycle never prevents them from attending school.
Education Sponsorships Because education is key to a better future we facilitate direct financial sponsorships for students in Kenya. As donors provide the funding to pay tuition fees, Helping Hands Kenya Development (HHKD) identifies needy students who are serious about their education – in Primary, Secondary and College/University levels.
Global Humanitarian Shipments With our Orphan Grain Train (OGT) relationship, the Helping Hands impact extends beyond Kenya to various Third World Countries. We collect, sort, clean and pack a wide variety of items that are eventually sent to OGT for final shipment. This includes prefab chicken coops, bunk beds, picnic tables, and a wide assortment of other needed items! OGT then loads the cargo into 40′ overseas containers for shipment to various needy countries.
