Core Values and Principles

Our Guiding Principles

Helping Hands is deeply rooted in the belief that – “Service to others is the rent we pay for the space we occupy here on earth.” We are guided by the understanding that true humanitarian service is a collaborative effort, involving the giver and the receiver! A core tenet of Helping Hands Kenya is that the people we assist must be actively involved and invested in what they are receiving – rather than simply giving charity. We ensure that the individuals and families receiving assistance participate with us. By requiring this active involvement — such as the “sweat equity” provided by families receiving a new house — we ensure that our initiatives foster a deep sense of pride, ownership, dignity.

Our Core Values

  • Compassion in Action: We believe that everyone has something to give as we actively cultivate opportunities for volunteers to share their unique time, talents, and resources to create a brighter future for others.
  • Financial Integrity and Stewardship: We are deeply committed to ensuring that funds donated are used to give Hope to and assist those most in need . Helping Hands proudly maintains an operating overhead of less than 3%, meaning your contributions directly fund materials and programs that change lives.
  • Empowerment Through Hope and Dignity: We believe that providing a new home, basic sanitation, access to education, etc. is an effective way to elevate self esteem, thereby providing Hope for a future .
